By now, you have heard of CBD. You might already love it, or perhaps you’re curious to learn more. Either way, we’re here for you. Bloomi recently opened up the CBD section of our marketplace, and we launched our very own Bloomi Massage Oil with CBD from organically grown hemp (try it, you’ll love it!).
So… what is CBD, anyway?
CBD stands for cannabidiol, one of the more than 100 cannabinoids found in the hemp, or cannabis, plant. It is the second most abundant cannabinoid in the plant after THC, the one that is known for producing a high, and for other effects on the body and mind. CBD is not intoxicating. It is not the cannabinoid THC, but CBD can affect mood and the body—usually in desirable, positive ways, like reducing anxiety and chronic pain. For the plant to be designated “hemp” and not “marijuana” the THC needs to be really low—0.3% or less of the extract. Any higher than that means you need to buy it from a dispensary.
So CBD is hemp, then?
People often use the term “CBD” as though it is interchangeable with “hemp,” or as shorthand for “hemp” in consumer products or supplements. But CBD is not the same thing as hemp (or cannabis, or marijuana). It is a compound found within these plants.
In general, CBD is used in hemp products in these different forms:
1) as a part of a full-spectrum oil. This means the oil is extracted from the hemp plant and the CBD and other cannabinoids are present as nature intended—with THC always under 0.3% to be considered hemp and legally saleable on Bloomi or any other online market. Full-spectrum means you get the full benefit of the entire plant, or
2) as CBD isolate. An isolate means that the chemical compound has been isolated, or pulled out of, its original “home” in the plant. CBD is not the only natural compound people isolate; this happens in pharmaceutical medicine, street drugs, and in beauty products (in fragrance blends, or caffeine, for example).
What are the effects and benefits of using hemp oil?
Hemp has been used by people for thousands of years, and is known to be rich in essential fatty acids and phytonutrients.
Although the benefits of hemp oil/cannabinoids are still being researched, studies have shown that cannabinoids (like CBD) can interact with the body’s own endocannabinoid system. This is why we often see that hemp oil/cannabinoids help to ease pain, reduce anxiety, or soothe skin. Studies also show that there are cannabinoid receptors in the dermis, and cannabinoids like CBD may play a role in skin balance and overall health.
Can using hemp oil improve my sex life?
We know that the endocannabinoid system in our body plays an important role in our sexual arousal process. Studies show that endocannabinoid receptors are especially dense in areas of the brain associated with sexual pleasure and sexual arousal including the hypothalamus, hippocampus, and cerebellum. Receptors are also abundant in our genital area including our adrenal glands and ovaries. This is why using products with hemp oil may positively impact our sexual function and help sex feel better.
Is it safe?
There is very little risk for people. In order for products to be Bloomi Approved they need to meet our high standards. All of our products must be safe and enjoyable. Lax regulation and cultural taboos mean that the majority of intimate care products contain cheap, toxic, and often secret ingredients. Not here.
The CBD in Bloomi’s Massage Oil is certified organic, US grown, CO2 extracted (the cleanest way) and fully traceable by batch, so we know it has been tested for pesticides, heavy metals, and more.
